RainCloud™ Timer Support Ends April 15, 2026
In November of 2025, we began emailing RainCloud customers to notify them that we are discontinuing the original RainCloud™ WiFi Timer on April 15, 2026. After this date, the RainCloud app will no longer connect to your timer, and cloud-based features will no longer be available. If you are still using your RainCloud system, now is a good time to plan your next steps to avoid interruptions in your watering schedule.
Why We’re Discontinuing this Product
When we introduced the original RainCloud WiFi Timer more than a decade ago, it was ahead of its time. Back then, it was an innovation that brought smart watering and weather-based control to home gardens before most people had ever heard the term “smart home.”
Since then, technology has changed dramatically.
As with so many pieces of technology that have come and gone over the years, the hardware and mobile app that power the original RainCloud have become increasingly outdated. Despite ongoing efforts to maintain the RainCloud platform, it no longer delivers the reliable, secure, and consistent experience we expect for our customers.
Because of this, and because the product has not been sold for several years, we’ve made the difficult but responsible decision to discontinue support for the original RainCloud WiFi Timer.
It’s always a sad day when it comes time to put an old and much-loved product behind us, but this decision allows us to:
- Avoid ongoing reliability issues during peak watering season
- Protect customer data and privacy
- Focus our resources on newer solutions that meet today’s technology and security standards
We know many customers have relied on RainCloud over the years, and we appreciate the trust you’ve placed in Melnor. While no technology lasts forever, our commitment to smart, dependable watering continues.

What does “discontinuing” mean?
“Discontinuing” means we will no longer provide app updates, software fixes, or technical support for the original RainCloud WiFi Timer and its related accessories.
Why is this happening now?
The original RainCloud system has not been sold for more than five years. The technology behind it—both hardware and software—no longer meets current standards for reliability, performance, and security. Continuing support is no longer sustainable, especially when we can divert time and resources from supporting this product to innovating newer, better products and to helping our customers implement better systems.
Is this about cost or subscriptions?
No. This decision is about reliability, long-term stability, and customer experience. As technology evolves, some platforms simply reach the end of their practical life. We are shifting our focus to providing you with more reliable and secure technology that delivers the high performance you expect.
Will my RainCloud timer stop working immediately?
The hardware may continue to function in a limited way, but features that rely on the app, cloud services, weather data, or notifications may become unreliable or stop working over time.
Why can’t the app just be updated or patched?
The RainCloud platform relies on technologies that are now obsolete and difficult to maintain. Updating it would require rebuilding the system from the ground up—a complete overhaul. Unfortunately, such an overhaul still would not meet modern expectations for performance, security, or reliability.
Is my personal data at risk?
No, and that’s one of the biggest reasons why we’re discontinuing the RainCloud. Protecting customer data is a priority. Discontinuing this platform helps ensure we are not supporting systems that can no longer be updated to modern security standards that keep your data safe.
What should I do if I’m still using RainCloud?
We recommend transitioning to a current watering solution that offers modern connectivity, improved reliability, and ongoing support. Our customer service team is happy to point you toward alternative options.
Will Melnor offer a replacement or upgrade?
